Laser and electric hair removal in Bogotá
At Unilaser Médica, we offer the complete hair removal solution, including both the electrical technique (electrolysis) and the laser.
As for lasers, we have all wavelengths of diode lasers in addition to the Candela ® Alexandrite equipment to treat thinner hair.
Regarding electric hair removal, we offer specialized equipment to perform it more efficiently.
Specialized techniques developed from our evaluations allow us to constantly optimize our results.
The real objective of laser hair removal is to reduce the amount of hair in a constant and controlled manner from the beginning of the treatment.
Laser hair removal is ideal for removing large amounts of hair, while electroepilation is especially effective on light hair, where the laser may be less effective.
The combination of both methods allows us the necessary versatility to achieve optimal results for each person.
What is Laser and Electric Hair Removal?
Laser Hair Removal: This method uses concentrated laser light to remove hair.
Light is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair, which generates heat and damages the hair follicle, delaying or preventing future hair growth.
The laser is especially effective on dark, thick and dense hair. Acting in large areas quickly.
There are different types of lasers indicated to protect the skin and also obtain the different types of thickness and density of hair to be removed.
Lasers that best protect the skin are most effective on dark, thick hair. Those that can most easily burn the skin are only used on light skin.
Therefore, there are gaps where the laser cannot be used:
- Fine hair on dark skin.
- White hair in general
- Sparse thick hair amidst a high population of medium thickness hair. Paradoxical hair growth caused by laser
Electric Hair Removal (Electrolysis):
Electrólisis experiencia en Unilaser médica
Unlike lasers, electrolysis works by inserting a small cannula into each hair follicle and applying an electrical current. This destroys the follicle, preventing hair from growing back.
It is an effective process on all hair types and skin colors, including light or fine hairs that the laser cannot treat effectively.
Key Differences between Electrodepilation and Laser:
- Effectiveness according to Hair and Skin Type: The laser increases its effectiveness on thick and dense hair but its limitation is dark skin tone. Electrolysis works on all hair and skin types. Its main limitation is the treatment of areas of dense hair.
- Speed of Treatment: Laser hair removal is faster and suitable for large areas, while electrolysis uses laser-resistant hair.
- Technique: Laser controls dark hair regrowth before it is observable, while electrolysis is the only possible means of treating white hair and the presence of sparse thick hair amid unwanted medium-thick hair populations. treat.
Both methods require evaluation of their effectiveness, for which we maintain reduction studies that we have already presented since the beginning of laser hair removal in Colombia more than 25 years ago.
We maintain a greater interest in complete treatments than a hair removal session today accessible to everyone from spas or machines used at home, more suitable methods to achieve more discreet effects.
Therefore, if you are looking for a more complete result, treatments are needed and this is your place.

Equipment used in Unilaser medical
At Unilaser Médica, we use advanced hair removal technologies to guarantee maximum effectiveness and safety in our treatments.
Among the lasers we have:
Diode Laser: This technology uses semiconductors to produce focused, precise laser light. It is especially effective for thick and dark hair. The Primelase® laser has the ability to adjust different types of wavelength and pulse times, making it versatile and suitable for different skin and hair types.
Solid State Laser: Uses solid crystals to generate laser light. This type of laser, like the Candela®, is known for its effectiveness on a wide range of hair colors and skin types, including lighter skin types. It is ideal for delicate and precise treatments.
Viridex®: Unique in Colombia. It is a special ultra-pulsed radiofrequency equipment to avoid the traditional complications of electrolysis.
Each of these technologies has its own advantages and is selected based on the specific needs of each client, ensuring personalized treatment and the best possible results.

Laser hair removal of the face in Bogotá
We have all the options for facial hair removal.
We understand that a result must be obtained immediately to ensure long-term results.
This is why regarding the laser, which is performed on entire areas, we do touch-ups within a month of the session, a fair period to observe the hairs that were not treated or those that were close to emerging and were not treated by the laser.
When you come to a new session with different hair lengths it shows the reason for the touch-ups.
On the face, many more considerations must be taken because paradoxical hair growth occurs in areas where treatment is abandoned.
In simple words, it is about observing longer hairs and hairs months after stopping the laser sessions.
Although to varying degrees they are fewer than before, many of the stimulated hairs could grow thicker and longer.
If the treatment has not been suspended, no one will notice the paradoxical stimulus, but it is very risky to limit the number of sessions and then have cases that will cause great disappointment to the patient.
A scheduled “weaning” of the sessions should then be considered in cases that progressively arrive with less significant amounts of hair.
Or also consider two situations:
- Do not start laser cases in areas with large amounts of medium-thick hair and little thick hair.
- Initially opt to start electrical hair removal combined with laser.
The laser, among its many advantages, has the possibility of treating hairs that have not yet emerged. Electrolysis requires that the hair be at least one millimeter in length and in cases of abundant presence of thick dark hair and also white, both therapies will have to be used.
When opting for the laser, the need to have more than one type of equipment will be observed.
Broadly speaking, we can summarize the equipment into two types depending on whether they are treated by contact with the skin or whether they are emitted from the source of the equipment.
- Solid state lasers.
- Diode lasers.
Both can be efficient in dark colors, but in thinner and lighter colors the energy density is higher in solid-state lasers.
We have the three most effective possibilities: The Primelase® diode laser and the Candela® laser. and the ultra-pulsed radiofrequency equipment, the only one in Colombia, the Viridex®.
The Primelase® laser has 4 types of diode laser.
The Candela® laser is a laser without contact with the skin.
The cooling systems of medical equipment help tolerate pain better and avoid burns.

The Best Types of Permanent Laser Hair Removal: Diode and Alexandrite

Painless laser hair removal...
The skin has sensors for heat and pain.
If the effect of the laser is to bring light energy to the hair, heat will occur in the darker areas.
There are pain thresholds that explain why some people report feeling heat and pain differently.
The sensation of pain should be avoided. It is what comes before seeing after, a burn.
To the extent that cooling systems are used, satisfactory results can be obtained with many pieces of equipment, regardless of which one is more powerful.
Likewise, the resources of firing modalities can make some systems more tolerable than others.

What is the best laser for permanent hair removal?

Two general types of laser hair removal equipment must be considered depending on the purpose of the session. Since it will not be the same to have obtained a result with the previous session or the availability of being able to do a touch-up in the short term. In addition, tolerance to the planned procedure will have to be considered.
Laser types:
- Diode lasers: Primelase®
- Solid State Lasers: Candela®

What areas cannot be removed with laser
The laser has been used practically in all areas where hair or hair grows on the body.
How many laser sessions are needed to remove pubic hair?
More than 18 sessions in a follow-up period of at least 4 years; It’s the safe thing.
Gone are the times when, in order to win over clients, serious hair removal centers committed to results according to a number of sessions.
In our center, packages of 7 sessions are offered that can take a year to complete, but some cases should consider taking double the sessions, in the same time.
And that’s how we explained it in the pre-treatment evaluation because the main idea is that people get more of what they buy.
We still have errors in approach regarding treatment despite our serious intention to offer what is really going to give a change permanently or if a complete treatment is not possible, at least complete sessions.
The teams change but the results depend more on the method.
Nowadays each case must be evaluated according to its response compared to other similar cases in each center with its own measurements.
It is the only possible evidence.
We have gone from clinical studies to general experience where cases satisfied with practically definitive results are achieved after long treatments which are progressively spaced and with the passage of time obtaining more and more reductions.
What are the side effects of laser hair removal?
Burns and paradoxical hair growth are the main complications of laser.
Inflammation and some specific sinking of the skin that requires the use of laser to eliminate them, in cases of electrolysis.

It is important to clarify that the persistence of hair is the most frequent complaint of patients and is largely related to inconsistency in treatment.
A very representative effect of this is the paradoxical stimulation of hair after the laser.
It can only be classified if the patient stops having the sessions for a long period without resorting to any hair removal method after the laser.

How long does laser hair removal last?

How effective is laser hair removal?

The face is the least effective area. The sessions in some cases last for many years.
However, control of thick hair is achieved very quickly, in the first months.
How hair grows after laser hair removal

How many sessions of permanent hair removal are recommended?
Our work carried out on patients treated at Unilaser Medical took as definitive the results of a reduction of more than 90% over more than one year.
It was found that at least 10 sessions were necessary considering all areas.
However, the majority of patients did not obtain a 90% reduction at least after a one-year interval with this number of sessions.
80% obtained more than 90% long-term reduction in a range between 16 to 20 sessions.
The cases involving more than 20 sessions mostly correspond to the face where only 66.7% of patients obtained a long-term reduction greater than 90%.
In longer treatments (> 20 sessions) of laser hair removal on the face, a third of patients achieve a reduction greater than 90% with averages of 30 sessions. Very few cases (3) achieved complete reduction.

What happens if you do the laser without shaving
A diode laser will burn the hair onto the skin and will not have deep action if the area is not shaved first.
To avoid having to shave, the Candela laser is used as long as the hair is not too long and thick.

What can't I do if I get laser hair removal?

Arrive to the session with tanned skin.
It is better to do the laser a few days before the vacation to avoid arriving with inflammation and not having to delay the next session later.
Place depigmentants or abrasives on the laser-treated area. Burns may appear.
Abandon treatment.
When you get laser hair removal, do I have to get shaved?
It depends, in general there is no need if you have followed the professional’s instructions.
It is almost always better not to do it, to be able to better evaluate the result.
On the other hand, wax, almost always used when the hair is not too dense, will remove many hairs that could have been treated with a laser.
Yes, it has been recommended in a study to do a wax 15 days before the first session to select the hairs in active growth, the only ones susceptible to the laser.
How long does it take for hair to grow after the first laser session?

It is a question to be answered in many ways.
If hair remains after the session, different hair lengths will be observed in the next session.
Adding sessions or touch-ups before the hairs emerge would make it possible for them to be captured by the laser and this would be difficult to observe; The benefit would occur after doing sessions with no apparent but justifiable hair in the densest places.
Few sessions without touch-ups will give much more discreet results.
When does hair start to fall out with the laser?

It should fall immediately, if complete coverage has been achieved.
Burning is observed at first, it falls off over a period of 20 to 25 days.
How long do I have to wait to shave after laser?

In principle, it is better not to shave at the beginning of the treatment, when there is a lot of thick hair because it is the razor that generates the inflammation.
It is best to wait for them to fall on their own or gently pull them.
Hairs that do not fall need retouching and you should return to your center to have them treated again. If they are still there, they are possibly light or white in color, which requires electrolysis.
Electric hair removal of white hair
White hair removal is not possible with laser.
Nor the one with very light or red hair.
Electrodepilation or electrolysis as it is commonly called, is the only option in these cases.
A great limitation in electrolysis is the presence of a high amount of hair.
Inflammation between sessions can take several days.

How often should electrolysis be done?
The initial intervals are weekly. But in some cases it can be done daily.
The sessions should be spaced out each time and with less hair each time.
Can ears be shaved?
The auricles can be shaved.
Some lasers will have limitations in doing this.
It is necessary to protect the eardrum in these cases.
It is possible to complement with electric hair removal

Is it possible to become disillusioned with electric hair removal?
Very possible at the beginning of the treatment, because unlike the laser, electrolysis will not act on hairs that have not emerged.

What results does electric hair removal have?

It is presumed that between 80 and 85% in the long term, what we have studied so far is that when you have good photographs, a hair can grow up to two times after electrolysis.
