Laser Tattoo Removal

Evolution of monthly treatments over a period of 5 months.
Laser tattoo removal is possible, complete and safe when:
- The tattoo is black and small.
- They are cosmetic tattoos.
- It is a faded non-professional tattoo.

Is the laser effective for all tattoo substances?
Black tattoos are always picked up by the laser. The laser at very high power can remove all colors but, complete removal will in some cases leave white color on the skin. Lasers with more color diversity will be needed in the future to capture inks that currently do not respond to available lasers.
What is harder to remove, dark or colored tattoos?
Apart from the green laser, there are no specific lasers available to remove all colors. However, less pure and dark colors can lighten. When the tattoo is multicolored, the colors may lighten but the skin may remain with depigmentation.

How does laser tattoo removal work?
The laser emits high-intensity bursts of light that fragment the ink particles in the skin. The particles of black inks are the smallest (30 nanometers) and are more easily destroyed by the laser. Once fragmented, the body’s immune system takes charge of absorbing and eliminating these tiny fragments naturally over the following weeks.

How many laser sessions are needed to remove a tattoo?
It depends on the size, color, depth of the ink, and whether it was done by a professional or not. Non-professional tattoos with India ink disappear faster. The darker the tattoo, the longer it will take to disappear.

How much time should pass between laser sessions to remove a tattoo?
It is not necessary to have sessions at short intervals, as spots and depigmentation can occur. It is vital to give the lymphatic system time to clean the fragmented ink and for the skin to recover properly before the next thermal exposure.

How does the skin look after the treatment

One more example of instant tattoo lightening. The most important factor is the low presence of ink
The laser removes small tattoos without creating scars, as long as they are black. If the skin is not destroyed, the laser should not cause a scar. It is normal to observe slight redness or transient inflammation after the procedure.
Why does a large tattoo not disappear?
Very large tattoos do not disappear completely. This is due to the immense load of ink embedded in the dermis, which causes the immune system to reach a limit in its cleaning capacity, often leaving faint traces or shadows in the treated extensive area.

Which colors are harder to remove with the laser?
As we have mentioned, black is the most receptive. Vibrant colors like green, light blue, yellow, and fluorescent tones are traditionally the most resistant because they reflect a large part of the laser light instead of absorbing it.

What hurts more, getting the tattoo or removing it with a laser?
The sensation is often described as the quick snap of a hot rubber band against the skin. Although tolerance varies from patient to patient, at Unilaser Médica we use specialized cooling systems during the session to protect the skin and make the procedure highly tolerable, reducing discomfort to a minimum.
